We want to get married, what do we have to do?

How much notice do you need?
The Notice of intended Marriage Form can be signed and completed up to 18 months before the wedding date. But must be handed to the marriage celebrant no later than one month and one day before the wedding ceremony.
Where can couples get married?
Couples are allowed to be married just about anywhere in Australia. if you plan to have and outdoor wedding ALWAYS have a backup plan in case the weather turns bad.
How many witnesses do I need?
The Bride and Groom need to choose one person each, over the age of 18, to witness their signatures.
Is the wedding certificate given to the couple at the ceremony a legal certificate?
The certificate given on the day is not a formal wedding certificate. To obtain a legal wedding certificate you must apply to the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the State you were married.
I have lost my original birth certificate, will a certified copy do?
You will need to contact the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages in the State you were born to obtain a new full birth certificate. Remember to allow enough time to get the application processed in a timely manner.
What happens if both of us cannot sign the NOIM at the same time?
There is a list of people that can witness the signatures on the NOIM Form. The signatures can be witnessed by different people.
